Core Tubes – PolyCarbonate & Stainless

[new_royalslider id=”207″]

Ocean Instruments offers a selection of high-quality core tubes for vibracoring and piston coring applications. We stock polycarbonate, aluminum, and stainless steel tubes in standard lengths from 5 to 20 feet, with custom options available to meet specific sampling requirements.

For most applications under 15 feet, our thick-walled polycarbonate tubes are highly recommended. These tubes are more resilient than metal alternatives, providing excellent durability when encountering hard substrates. Their transparency also allows users to instantly verify core recovery and assess sediment compaction.

Dimensions: 20 in x 20 in x 15 in

Weight: 125 lbs

Core Tube Diameter: Available in 3″ and 4″ standard sizes; custom diameters available upon request

Vibracoring is a proven technique for retrieving core samples of underwater sediments and wetland soils. The attached tube penetrates the substrate through gravity, assisted by vibration. This vibration reduces friction by creating a lubricating layer between the tube and surrounding material, easing core extraction and preserving stratifications.

Vibracoring performs best in unconsolidated or mixed sediments. The method allows for efficient recovery of high-integrity samples, making it ideal for research, environmental monitoring, and geotechnical studies.

All Ocean Instruments vibracore systems feature proprietary control units that allow users to fine-tune vibration frequency. They are also compatible with Ocean Instruments’ SMRT system, providing real-time depth monitoring, with optional video and CTD integration.
